CALIFORNIA DREAM WEEK LAUNCHES 2ND EDITION
HELPING YOUTH BELIEVE IN A SUSTAINABLE TOMORROW & FEEL PART OF A GLOBAL COMMUNITY

CHICO, California, USA, October 2011 — California Dream Week announces the second edition of its awards program challenging high school juniors and seniors from Northern California to dream and propose concepts for a sustainable tomorrow. Student winners will receive over $5000 in higher education scholarships and their high schools will receive funds raised during the California Dream Week Festival show week in Spring 2012.

Students from 40 Northern California counties may participate alone or in groups, in up to two of three available categories: Architecture & Interior Product Design, Transportation, and Product Compliments. Scholarship Awards will be assigned to the top three placing projects in each category.

A distinguishing element of the awards program is that winning student projects are shared with professional architects and designers from around the globe. These international personalities in the world of design dedicate their time to graphically demonstrate how the projects have impacted their own design process and creativity. A series of student-inspired posters with content shared by the designers will be revealed during the California Dream Week Festival held in Chico, one of the nation’s hotbeds of sustainability.

“This contest is designed to allow the maximum amount of participation from students, regardless of the classes (not) offered in their school. We hope that, just as demonstrated in our first edition, students that have never had any sort of design or technical classes will also be inspired to share their ideas. Aesthetic presentation holds the least point value in the judging criteria of the contest. Primary judging criteria is focused on other factors such as creativity and the demonstration of having studied materials, performance and sustainability,” explains Melisa Lasell, founder of the California Dream Week scholarship program.

In its first year, the awards program saw the participation of students from 21 schools in 13 California counties, and international designers from South Africa, Mexico, Italy and The Netherlands. “We were lucky to have had some of today’s most trendy and promising professionals in the world of architecture and design participate in the program. They were so inspired and moved by the initiative, that many pledged their continued support of the event,” Lasell added.

Professionals interested in being a part of the 2012 judging panel or participating within the context of the graphic designer interpretations for the California Dream Week Festival, should contact the organizers at press@bt-media.net.

"Hi Divyanshu, I love red pandas, and I'm glad you seem to like them too. They are decreasing in number, which is why conservation organizations need to work to protect them and their habitat. Thanks for spreading the word!"
